Creative hearts, run free!

The Spencil Art Prize is back and entries are now open!

We are calling all little artists under 13 years of age to inspire us once more, by pouring their little hearts onto a page.

Last year, 1300 young artists from across the country submitted a whopping 2300 pieces to be recognised and celebrated. You can take a wonder through the 2021 Online Gallery to marvel at these gorgeous artworks.

This enormous and overwhelmingly positive response really reinforced the importance of providing a platform for young artists to feel seen and heard. It showed that when provided with the opportunity to create and share, our little artists do so with pride and SO MUCH TALENT!

Our special judge, Carrie McCarthy was blown away by the gorgeous entries!

“It’s so great to see kids bursting with confidence in their abilities after finishing a masterpiece, and it reminds those of us who work in the arts sector why we do it.”

Once again, Major Prize winners of the 2022 Spencil Art Prize will have the opportunity to participate in a live streamed winner’s announcement and win an artist collab with Spencil’s in-house designers. They will also be gifted a $100 cash prize, an award certificate and school supplies for their school valued at $500!

While winning a major prize may evoke a sense of excitement and motivation kids to get creative, it’s definitely not the only benefit to getting involved.

It’s our goal here at Spencil to inspire maximum individuality and creativity, so the prize has no set theme, medium or number of entries. The main focus of the competition is something we hold dear: embracing the uniqueness of every child and celebrating unapologetic self-expression. Afterall, true creativity goes beyond the picture frame!

This is exactly why each and every gorgeous entry is hung in the virtual online gallery to be celebrated by the entire world. The sense of pride in seeing and sharing their creation is the perfect motivator to get our young artists creating.

Our awesome judge, Sarah Barron, said it is important to inspire every child to create artwork for their personal development. “It’s important to celebrate young artists to foster not only their artmaking skills, but their ability to think creatively, imagine and express themselves – all vital skills for life!”

We were blown away by the incredibly perceptive works on some of 2020’s most topical issues in last year’s competition. From COVID-19 to the Australian bushfires, our young artists demonstrated an uncanny ability to process the world around them through art.

Despite being a challenging and tumultuous year for most, our young artists showed so much resilience in their works. Coming through the last couple of tricky years, we are excited to see an increased level of hope and positivity shining through the 2022 entries.

Spencil’s Marnie O’Dwyer said that the authentic and personal nature of entries is encouraged, “It isn’t usually the best technical work that wins the prize, it’s the work that touches the heart the most”.

2021 Winner (8 Years and Younger), Adelaide Schwarz’s entry on a special edition Collab with Spencil!
2021 Winner (9 – 13 Years), Marco Ferlito’s entry on gorgeous Spencil stationery! Could this be YOU?
