With family budgets being put to the test recently, the thought of school holidays can leave you wondering how you’re going to entertain the kids without breaking the bank. It can be tempting to get into the holiday planning but, as many of us are feeling the pinch right now, let us tempt you instead with these thrifty (or totally free!) holiday ideas that will still get your little ones excited!

  1. Plan a Day at the Beach
Pack some lunch or stop for fish ‘n’ chips and wiggle those toes in the sand!
  2. Sight-see in your own City
Grab a map and plan your very own hop-on, hop-off tour.
  3. Go Fishing
Pack a kit, find some bait and settle in for the day.
  4. Visit a Local Farm
Many will give you a tour, offer fruit and flower picking or let you pet the animals.
  5. Head to the Botanic Gardens
The perfect place for the kids to run around while you laze with a picnic and catch some rays.
  6. Visit the Grandparents
Just as lovely for Grandpa and Grandma as it will be for the kids!
  7. Make a Cooking Show
The kids can create new dishes and channel their inner chef.
  8. Take a trip to the Local Museum and Gallery
Many have school holidays exhibits for free (or a small entry fee).
  9. Plan a Treasure Hunt in the Backyard
Come up with a map and some clues and the kids will have a ball discovering some treasure!
  10. Have a Tea Party
Yummy snacks and your Sunday best is all that’s required.
